Good Earth Pottery in Bellingham features Linda Stone in October

Cairo opens “What constitutes your experience of home?”

Cairo 507 E. Mercer Street on Capitol Hill, opens a new show Wednesday, September 30 in a reception from 7-9pm. Gathered from a group of young artists across the continental United States, the work in this show is a response to the question “What constitutes your experience of home?” Steven Vroom, writing for the Capitol Hill Times, says, “Cairo is more than just the new kid on the block.” The show is curated by Francesca Lohmann and Anna Lynett.

Joe Feddersen exhibition opens at the Tacoma Art Museum and runs through January 10

Tacoma Art Museum A major retrospective of work by Joe Feddersen, Joe Feddersen: Vital Signs, is on view at the Tacoma Art Museum through January 10. Featured are selections of  Feddersen’s printmaking, collage, glass, and weaving created since 1996. Following in the footsteps of his Plateau Indian ancestors, who interpreted their environment in the patterns of their baskets, Feddersen transforms the rhythms of the urban centers and natural landscapes surrounding him into art forms that are both coolly modern and warmly impressionistic.

American Modernism in the Frye’s permanent collection on view through January 10

Frye Drawn from the permanent collection of the Frye Art MuseumOpen Roads and Bedside Tables focuses on American painting from the early twentieth century, when artists turned away from European academic traditions to develop a distinctly American style. Included in the exhibition are paintings and works on paper by regionalist and American scene artists such as Grant Wood, Thomas Hart Benton, Marsden Hartley, John Sloan, and Maurice Prendergast. Don’t forget today is Museum Day with free museum admission

The Seattle Times says, Several local museums offer free admission today as part of Smithsonian magazine's annual Museum Day. The participating museums are: Bellevue Arts Museum; Burke Museum of Natural History and Culture; Experience Music Project/Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame; Fort Nisqually Living History Museum; Frye Art Museum; Henry Art Gallery; Log House Museum; Museum of Glass; Museum of History & Industry; Nordic Heritage Museum; Seattle Art Museum; The Museum of Flight; Tacoma Art Museum; Wing Luke Asian Museum; and Washington State History Museum. Punch Gallery auctions off entire collection

“Winner Takes All” at the Punch Gallery, 119  Prefontaine Place South in Seattle. They’re auctioning off the entire gallery collection to make way for new art and to reduce member dues. Beginning October 1, each $10 donation receives a ticket for a chance to win. When the exhibition closes on October 31, the winner will be drawn at 5pm.

Lawrimore Project hosting benefit for Photographic Center Northwest September 26

Lawrimore Project, 831 Airport Way South, is hosting a benefit auction, “re:Focus,” for Photographic Center Northwest on Saturday, September 26 at 6pm. Leo Saul Berk "Deep, Dark" opens at Lawrimore Project tonight at 6 pm

“Deep, Dark,” new work by Seattle artist Leo Saul Berk, opens at  Lawrimore Project, 831 Airport Way South in a reception on September 22 from 6-9pm. An artist talk and exhibition catalogue launch is scheduled for October 3 at noon. Four major world events bind the works in the exhibition: 9/11, the battle for Tora Bora, the Quecreek Mine rescue, and Saddam Hussein’s spider hole capture.His work has been included in many group exhibitions including: "Essential Elements, "Northwest Museum of Art, La Conner, WA (currently on view); "Gimme," Cornish College of the Arts, Seattle; "Swallow Harder: Selections from the Ben and Aileen Krohn Collection," Frye Art Museum, Seattle; "Woods," d.u.m.b.o. arts center, Brooklyn, NY; "Remodeling," California State University Art Museum, Long Beach (catalogue); and "Multiplex," Bumbershoot, Seattle. $250,000 in federal stimulus funding for arts received locally

4Culture, the cultural  development agency for King County, announced $250,000 in federal stimulus funds to help preserve local arts jobs at 40 arts and cultural organizations. Among the organizations receiving funds are the Bellevue Art Museum, The Attic Theatre in Bothell, The Burien Arts Commission, Kirkland Art Center, Fall City Arts, Arcade Magazine (NW Architectural League), Arts and Visually Impaired Audiences, Degenerate Art Ensemble, Town Hall, ArtsWest, Langston Hughes, Northwest Film Forum, Seattle International Film Festival, and Giant Magnet: For a complete list of 4Culture funded groups visit: www.4culture.org/arts/saveartjobs/awards.htm

Artist Trust and the Seattle Art Dealers Association are sponsoring : “Trust Your Eye: How to Acquire Art in Seattle, “ from 6-8:30 pm at the Foster/White Gallery, 220  Third Avenue South in Seattle. Tickets are $50 and all  proceeds benefit Artist Trust’s grants and resources for Washington State artists in all disciplines. The panel consists of David Martin, Barbara Robertson, Francine Seders and will be moderated by Tacoma Art Museum Curator, Rock Hushka.

Cloudstone Sculpture Park & Gallery Opening at 5056 Cloudstone Lane in Freeland, WA on Whidbey Island from 10am – 5pm. A benefit for Eriso House on September 26 from 6-8:30pm includes a guided tour of the sculpture park, music, a light buffet and beverages for a $20 donation.

Whidbey Island Open Studio Tour from 10  am to 6 pm. The two-day tour provides the rare chance to meet these artists while experiencing the actual settings in which they work. The $10 ticket includes a map of studio locations and a color 2010  wall calendar. Proceeds help to provide scholarships for local artists.  Two free preview exhibits from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. in Coupeville at the Crockett Barn, September 19-20 and September 25-27.; and in Langley at the Bayview Cash Store Open Door Gallery & Coffee, September 22-27.
