Downtown Museum and Seattle Asian Art Museum in Volunteer Park are free all day on First Thursdays. The Seattle Art Museum Downtown is now open.

Tacoma Art Museum names new curator

Tacoma Art Museum Director Stephanie A. Stebich has named Margaret Bullock Curator of Collections and Special Exhibitions.  She will begin her work at the museum this September.

Most recently, Bullock was curator and collections manager at the Harwood Museum of Art at the University of New Mexico in Taos, which preserves, collects, and exhibits historic and contemporary art and culture of the Taos region. Previously she worked at the Portland Art Museum, first as Curatorial Assistant in 1998, then Assistant Curator of American Art, and finally as Associate Curator of American Art in 2001.

July 13 - 27
“Art of the Islands” paint-out, a gathering of artists from around the state that will benefit land conservation. The artists involved in the project are in the San Juan Islands to interpret the archipelago’s rugged shorelines and diverse landscapes on canvas and paper. In addition to setting up easels near roadways and other public open spaces, artists will be granted access to several private nature preserves protected by the San Juan Preservation Trust, Washington’s oldest land trust. An exhibit to view the art takes place July 28 at Insights Gallery in Anacortes. For more information, contact the San Juan Preservation Trust at 360.378.2461.

July 19
Pratt Garden Art Fundraiser takes place at Swanson's Nursery. A special party will be held on Thursday July 19 from 6-9pm with food and festivities, all benefitting Pratt Fine Arts Center. Admission is $100. Swansons is located at 9701 15th Avenue NW. For more information, call 206.328.2200.

ArtistsConnect Art Show Thursday 12 to 8 and Friday, Saturday, Sunday 10 to 5. Location: ArtWorks, 201 Second Avenue at Dayton Street, 425-774-6049. A 4-day art show of original art by 50 area award-winning and emerging artists representing a broad range of media and styles. July 20 - October 20
The fourth annual West Edge Sculpture Exhibition explores the works of 20 local artists. The free outdoor visual arts exhibit, which will be installed in/around downtown Seattle's Benaroya Hall, Seattle Art Museum and  Harbor Steps -- offers an up-close look at compelling sculptures by prominent and emerging Pacific Northwest artists. The West Edge Sculpture Exhibition runs from Fri., July 20th through Sun., Oct. 20th.This year's show was juried by Michael Darling - Seattle Art Museum, Barbara Shaiman - SAM Gallery and Gregory Robinson -Museum of Northwest Art, La Conner.

Wedgwood Art Festival Saturday, July 21 from 10:00-5:00 at the Homestreet Bank and parking lot at 35th Av NE and NE 84th St.  Local artists and craftspeople will be selling and talking about their work.  There will also be free children's art activities, as well as a children's art contest. In addition, there will be performances by the 85th St Band, Hippology, Sue Truman and Jerry Gallaher.
