February 16-19
Festival Sundiata held at the Seattle Center House.
Sundiata showcases local and regional entertainment, art and photography exhibits, retail and food merchants and a dynamic children's place. Sundiata has a 26-year history of bringing African/African-American Cultural Arts to the Seattle area.

February 22
"Framing the View: Leo Berk & Cris Bruch," at The Henry Art Gallery at 7pm  in the general auditorium. Part of 4Culture's Art Registry, Leo Berk and Cris Bruch use their backgrounds as fine artists to design unique sculptural works for a variety of clients. Each will discuss recent work, balancing studio and design elements in their respective practices, and address how public art requires a site-specific consideration of history, local culture, and the viewer in communal space.

February 24
At  2pm in the Stimson Auditorium at the Seattle Asian Art Museum,  noted scholar Steve Brown will discuss the Dundas Collection of Northwest Coast American Indian Art. This collection, which includes many Tsimshian masterpieces, set a new record this past fall for the sale of Native American art at auction. Brown will also comment on the George Terasaki collection, a remarkable group of Northwest Coast artworks, which is the subject of the recently published Transfigurations: North Pacific Coast Art.

February 25
"Iraq in Fragments," is nominated for an Oscar and 911 Media Arts Center is celebrating with an Academy Awards party.  911 Media Arts Center is inviting the public to celebrate the Iraq in Fragments creative team and root them on during the Academy Awards. Come join the festivities on Sunday, Feb 25 at 5pm, Oscar night, to enjoy drinks, food, and the Academy Awards in the 911 theater space.  The film, co-produced by James Longley and John Sinno, was edited at 911 Media Arts Center in Seattle by Longley, Billy McMillan and Fiona Otway.

Display of PONCHO art in downtown Macy*s windows culminates on March 3rd with the 6th Annual PONCHO Invitational Fine Art Auction.

Tacoma Art Walk. Tacoma's galleries, Museum of Glass, the Washington State History Museum, and the Tacoma Art Museum are open from 5 - 8pm. All three museums are free. Info line: 253/272-4258.

PONCHO Art Auction Preview Party on Thursday at 6:00 pm at ESCALA Presentation Center (414 Stewart Street). Over 40 pieces of art from the auction will be available for viewing with participating artists in attendance.

February 16-19

February 17
Monroe Arts Council presents the  1st annual "Arty Gras" Masquerade Ball and fundraising auction on Saturday, February 17, 2007 from 7-11 pm at Laurelwood Reception Hall and Events Center, 123 North Blakely in Monroe. Participants are encouraged to dress in Mardis Gras attire, including masks and costumes. Music will include a live Dixieland band, dancing and music by TurtleTraxx Entertainment. There will be a live and silent art auction as well as prizes for best mask and best costume. The cost of the event is $50 per person or $75 per couple and includes annual membership to the Monroe Arts Council. Space is limited so register early by calling 360-794-7844 or visit the website.  This auction and masquerade ball will feature the works of local and Puget Sound artists who will offer original art and other art-related items in a live and silent auction. February 17, 18
Jill Reynolds from Brooklyn, NY, visits the Hot Shop at Tacoma's Museum of Glass this weekend to work with the museum's Hot Shop team to create models of the world's oceans by blowing hot glass into hand-crafted molds. These oceans are elements for a future installation that will model the cycle of water in the atmosphere. Reynolds' Table of Elements is included in "Contrasts: A Glass Primer," currently on display in the Museum's West Gallery.
