Tacoma Art Museum Biennial

Posted by admin in Untagged

Tacoma Art Museum In case you missed it, the Tacoma Art Museum’s 9th Northwest Biennial is on view until May 25, so there is still plenty of time to see it. Following are a few articles we’ve gathered from around the web so you can see what some of the region’s arts writers have to say about it.

The Tacoma News Tribune’s Rosemary Ponnekanti writes, “When you walk into a Northwest Biennial, what are you expecting? The best of the Northwest? A comprehensive summing-up of Northwest art? The answer, say the curators of Tacoma Art Museum’s Ninth Northwest Biennial, is neither. What you should be getting is just an initial suggestion of where Northwest art is right now. And with this Biennial, just opened, they’re finally achieving that goal: a tight, unified exhibition that creates an aesthetic without overwhelming.”

Alec Clayton, writing for the Weekly Volcano, says, “ The 9th Northwest Biennial at Tacoma Art Museum is too heavy on the conceptual; there’s too much photography, and it would be nice if there were at least one South Sound artist in the show. But it’s one of the more impressive biennials they’ve had, with a wide range of very intriguing art.”

Jen Graves, writing for The Stranger, asks 26 questions in her review of the exhibition.

Another point of view is expressed by Meghan Erkkinen, writing for the Fife Free Press.

Regina Hackett talks about Tacoma in general in her article in the Seattle P.I. called, “Forging Tacoma: To the south of Seattle is the town that art built.”
