First Thursday Seattle gallery openings

artxchange freedom New paintings from Vietnam artist Bui Cong Khanh open at the ArtXchange Gallery, 512 First Ave. S., at a reception from 5-8pm and will be on view through December 30. He will be exhibiting in the Sixth Annual Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art at the Brisbane Gallery of Contemporary Art in 2010 and has exhibited in every major city in Vietnam and in countries around the world including Korea, Cambodia, France, Australia, the United States, Malaysia, Germany, Taiwan and Thailand. Shown: Freedom.

Cullom “The Highline and other new work,” woodcuts by Sara Tabbert, opens at the Cullom Gallery, 313 Occidental Avenue S., in a reception from 6-8pm and continues until January 2.

 

 

davidson Davidson Galleries, 313 Occidental Avenue S., is showing recent paintings by Robert E. Marks and new works from Northwest print artists Jonelle Johnson through November 28. The opening reception takes place from 6-8pm.

 

gallery ima Opening at Gallery IMA, 123 S. Jackson,  is “Erick Olson:I Want More!” Olson’s show runs until  November 29  and features his latest series of abstract acrylic on aluminum dot paintings. The opening receptions is from 6-8pm. Shown: Refusing to Follow I.

“Evan Blackwell:Lost in Space” opens from 6-8pm at Gallery4Culture, 101 Prefontaine Place S. and runs until November 27.

 

Tim Roda and Drew Daly open from 6-8pm at the Greg Kucera Gallery, 212 Third Avenue S. Concurrent with the gallery’s third exhibition of work by the artist, will be Roda’s first one-person exhibitions with Galerie Michael Janssen in Berlin from through October 31 and with Daniel Cooney Fine Art in New York from through October 31. Several works by Roda will be included in “Artist as Performer” at the Houston Center For Photography from through November 8. Also  on view at the gallery is Drew Daly’s “Visual Fiction,” the artist’s attempts to visually represent time, space and motion.

 

SuttonBeresCuller opens in a reception from 6-9pm at Lawrimore Project, 831 Airport Way S., and continues until December 19.

 

Lisa Harris HUT BlackSun3 “Three Form,” an exhibition of work by three of the Lisa Harris Gallery‘s, 1922 Pike Place, leading non-representational artists: Richard Hutter, Victoria Johnson and Thomas Workman, opens in a reception from 6-8pm . The three artists share a process-oriented approach to creating art, employing intuition, chance and spontaneity. Shown: Richard Hutter, Black Sun 3.

 

NWFW Northwest Fine Woodworking, 101 S. Jackson St, opens from 5:30 – 8pm with their 30th Annual Box & Container Show, a juried competition with cash prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place submissions as well as the People's Choice Award. The show will be on view for the month of November.

Pratt Fine Arts Center, 306 S. Washington St., opens with “Continuing the Legacy,” an exhibition showcasing work from recipients of the Foundation's Artist-in-Residence Program, including Jite Agbro, Romson Bustillo, Marita Dingus, Joe Max Emminger,  Ester Ervin and Daniel Minter. All of these artists have been instructors or scholarship recipients at Pratt or advocates for the organization.

Punch Gallery, 119 Prefontaine Place South, opens from  5-8pm with “Gravity Wins,” a series of photographs by Bill Finger. Exploring the relationship between photography and cinema, he creates sets in miniature that borrow in technique from pre-CGI Hollywood. The exhibit runs until November 28.

Opening from 5-8 PM and showing until November 28th  at the Shift Collaborative Studio, 306 S. Washington is a show featuring Mary Cross and June Sekiguchi. Though disparate in method and material, Coss and Sekiguchi share the concept of parts to the whole and an exploration of the nature of being.

 

Traver Sea “Ostraca,” an exhibition of new works by ceramicist Kathy Venter opens at the Traver Gallery Seattle, 110 Union Street, in a reception  from 5-8pm. This exhibition features a series of ten hand-built, life size busts sculpted from live models. Also on view is “Small Sculptures of Large Objects,” an exhibition of new works by Seattle based artist Mark Zirpel. Zirpel is currently a 3D4M Professor at the University of Washington; his work has been featured at the Museum Of Glass in Tacoma, and is represented in collections nationwide.
