San Juan Island Annual Artists’ Studio Tour June 3, 4

Take the ferry at Anacortes to Friday Harbor this weekend for the 26th. Annual Artists’ Studio Tour. This year 20 mutually supportive island art studios with over 60 artists have joined together to create the largest weekend event yet. Take the self-guided tour to visit personal studios around the island and watch great art in the making. A free event, the SJI Artists’ Studio Tour showcases individual art studios along with guest artists and musicians amid luscious gardens and breathtaking views. Sign up for a raffle at each studio for a chance at local fine art. Maps and brochures are available online for your convenience at www.sanjuanislandartists.com and at many local businesses in Friday Harbor. Takes place Saturday and Sunday between 10am and 5pm.

The Holiday Art Market is a wonderful introduction to local artists and the KAC community.  Holiday hours thru December 24 are Tuesday – Saturday from 11-6 and Sunday 12-5.

Between Saturday, Dec. 17, and Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017, the Washington State Historical Society will host the 21st annual Model Train Festival at the Washington State History Museum  in Tacoma. This year’s festival will feature even more model train layouts than in years past, as well as highlight train-related exhibits in the Great Hall of Washington History.

The Anacortes Arts Festival Arts at the Port in the Port Transit Shed includes 45 artists from around the country, juried by Barbara Shaiman, former Director of the Seattle Art Museum SAM Gallery.  The work includes both 2D & 3D, encompassing a variety of mediums.   Represented in the Allen Family Focus Gallery are artists Anne Schreivogl, Sue Roberts & Graham Schodda, with work relating to the theme “Levity”.   Our  K-12 youth art exhibit rounds out Arts at the Port.   We will be open until 9 that evening, and will also have entertainment on our Port Stage – plus the Waterfront Pub on the Port dock open.

Art pieces are made out of flame treated stainless steel mesh with aluminum and brass mesh inside the forms. As part of the Artist Trust on Tour, four award-winning artists from Seattle and Spokane will come together at the Frye Art Museum on August 3 to perform, read, and celebrate art on an unforgettable night, from 7pm-9pm. The event is free with RSVP. Attendees are also invited to begin the night at a hosted happy hour, also at the Frye, from 6-7pm.
