First Saturday openings in September

brackenwoodBrackenwood Gallery,  302 First Street in Langley on Whidbey Island opens their Fourth Annual Print Show  Sept. 7 with an artists’ reception from 5-7 PM. This exhibit features new prints by Francy Blumhagen, Buffy Cribbs, Briony Morrow Cribbs, Diane Divelbess, Bridget Fischer and Bruce Morrow. The show runs through Sept. 30. Many of the prints in this exhibit were produced at the recently opened Flicker Feather Press print shop and learning center. Brackenwood artists Bruce Morrow and Buffy Cribbs created a facility dedicated to the print arts that can be achieved on an etching press. Shown: Buzz II by Briony Morrow Cribbs.

 

 

Gallery Cygnus, 109 Commercial in La Conner, opens “ Maggie Wilder’s Magic Mud Show” with a special artist reception September 7, 5-8pm coinciding  with the Skagit Art Escape / La Conner Gallery Walk that evening.  Also showing, Jeffrey Hanks vessels.

 

 

goodearthGood Earth Pottery, 1000 Harris Avenue in Bellingham, opens with a reception from 2-5pm with “Flock Back to School” featuring the diverse work of local high school teacher, Lonnie Schang for September. Schang has had works selected for publication in several editions of Lark Crafts best-selling "500 Series," including 500 Vases, Best of 500 Ceramics and 500 Teapots, Vol. 2 (just released, August 2013).

 

 

Smith & Vallee Gallery, 5742 Gilkey Avenue  in Edison,  presents a cutting-edge exhibition by Northwest School artists Joel Brock and one of the top anticipated painters in the Pacific Northwest Gregg Laananen. Brock (Edison) is best known for his paintings that explore landscape, architecture, and still life as subject matter but recently he has been pushing the boundaries. Gregg Laananen (Deming) paints en plein air (French for “open air”) to preserve the immediate essence of a specific setting.  The show opens from 5-8pm.
