Stonington Gallery, 125 S. Jackson Street,  hosts the book release and signing party for Duane Pasco’s autobiographical art book, Life As Art, published by University of Washington Press. A master carver and scholar of the Native art and languages of the Pacific Northwest Coast, Duane Pasco has been a central contributor to the renaissance of formline artwork over the past fifty years. A reception starts at 6pm, and the lecture an book signing are at 7pm.

At 6pm the Traver Gallery, 110 Union Street in Seattle, invites the public to a film in conjunction with Ginny Ruffner’s exhibition “Further Experiments in Aesthetic featuring glass and mixed media sculpture and works on paper.  The gallery will screen the full-length feature film called  “A Not So Still Life: the Ginny Ruffner Story” with the artist, the film’s director Karen Stanton and co-producer Tom Gorai. Q&A to follow the screening.

Museum of Glass in Tacoma brings Australian artist Mel George to  the Hot Shop from Wednesday, May 29 through Sunday, June 2 as part of the 2013 Visiting Artists Summer Series. This residency concludes with a lecture on Sunday, June 2 at 4:00 p.m. which will be streamed live and available to Australian audiences on Monday, June 3 at 9:00 a.m. EDT.

Pilchuck Glass School  will bring together the Pilchuck community at Chihuly Garden and Glass’ centerpiece–the renowned glass house–to express appreciation for supporters of the school and education in glass. Pilchuck Celebrates continues the school’s long-standing tradition of honoring extraordinary contributions to the field of contemporary glass. At this event, Pilchuck will reignite the Libenský | Brychtová Award (conceived in 1996 as the Libenský Award) by recognizing Klaus Moje as the 2013 honoree. An internationally renowned studio glass pioneer working with kilnformed glass, Moje is the founding director of the glass workshop at the Canberra School of Art. He will travel to Seattle from his home in Australia to accept the award.

Allied Arts of Whatcom County kicks off their  primary annual fundraiser on April 5 during the Bellingham Art Walk for  Arts Education Program – one of the largest collaborative arts education programs in the state. Enlightening the Arts is an indoor, two week long silent auction showcasing talents from many local artists. Each artist decorates a lampshade to contribute to the auction.  The auction stays on exhibit for two weeks and concludes on April 20, at a reception in conjunction with the Allied Arts Recycled Art Resource Expo, RARE!

At  6:30 pm the Museum of Glass in Tacoma hosts  the second annual Slider Cook-off featuring a cooking competition showcasing nine South Sound area restaurants battling to create the best slider for local celebrity judges and guests. The event will feature slider tastings for guests, dancing to 1950s rock and roll classics performed by Daryl and the Diptones and glassblowing by John Miller in the Hot Shop.

Best of the Northwest  24th annual art and fine craft show will be held on March 23rd and 24th at Seattle’s Smith Cove Cruise Terminal on Pier 91 by the Magnolia Bridge.
